RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES:
2023-2024 Parish School of Religion Calendar
About St. Joseph the Worker Youth Group
PSR Grades PreK to 12th meet Sunday mornings from 10:30am to 11:45 AM in the Divine
Mercy Hall (Pre-K to 6th grades) and Parish Basement (7th to Post- Confirmation).
Classes are held throughout the school year and offer opportunities for prayer and fellowship
in addition to catechism and Scripture study. PSR is a replacement for Catholic School
education and due to the inherent limited time scale for PSR teacher encourage family
involvement through the week with short homework assignments, reading assignments, and
prayers for memorization by grade. Our PSR program is meant to support Parents as their
Childrens’ primary teachers. Please reach out to the PSR Coordinator or your child’s PSR
Teacher for prayer and faith resources.

page.
Preparation for First Penance and First Communion are done during students’ 2nd grade
PSR year. Children planning to receive these sacraments must attend PSR classes.
Immediate preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation happens during students’ 8th grade
year. We have Confirmation once a year but preparation for the Sacrament occurs during the
students entire PSR career. Remote preparation for this sacrament is those years in
between 1st Communion and their 5th grade year. Students’ 6th and 7th grade years are
proximate preparation years in which the students will focus on the Bible and salvation
history in 6th grade and the Catechism in their 7th grade year. Then in 8th grade the students
will work through their immediate preparation phase in classes on Sundays during PSR and
Wednesday evenings from 6-7:30pm. This immediate preparation year will also include two
retreats; day long and an overnight.
High school students who have already been confirmed are encouraged to attend our post-
Confirmation class. This class is seminar style focusing on Church History and Morality.
Topics rotate each year so 9-12th grades are grouped together in class.
If you are interested in helping teach a PSR Class or becoming a substitute please contact
the PSR Coordinator.
